Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is set to premiere on Netflix next month, and early reactions to this highly anticipated sequel are now available. Eddie Murphy returns to his legendary role as Axel Foley, who heads back to Beverly Hills after his daughter Jane (Taylour Paige) finds herself in danger. Fortunately, Axel receives help from his old pals Taggart (John Ashton) and Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) as they work to solve the case.
Those who have had the chance to view Beverly Hills Cop 4 are now sharing their thoughts on Twitter.
So, was it worth the wait?
“Axel Foley and his crew are back in Beverly Hills, stirring up trouble and delivering laughs. The soundtrack takes you right back to 1984!,” tweeted Variety’s Jazz Tangcay.
JoBlo shared their excitement: “Had a fantastic time with Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. It definitely feels like the beginning of a new film series. It’s as much a nod to Beverly Hills Cop 2 as it is to the original.”
On the other hand, ComicBook.com’s Brandon Davis was less impressed, noting that it “didn’t capture the magic of other legacy sequels,” while Carla Renata described the sequel as “wild,” adding: “Eddie is back and you won’t believe what he’s got in store this time.”
Journalist Daric L. Cottingham praised the sequel: “It’s a great and entertaining action-comedy with plenty of nostalgia. Eddie Murphy shines as always and the film is genuinely hilarious. It’s packed with action and comedy. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it will resonate with many.”
Jerry Bruckheimer has returned as producer, with Mark Molloy directing the film.
Bruckheimer had previously assured fans that the new installment would stay true to its roots, saying: “Eddie is such an amazing talent. He excels in both drama and comedy – he can do it all. He remains the same Axel Foley, still operating on the streets, although wiser with age. He’s still got that spark.”
Beverly Hills Cop 4 also features Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Axel’s new partner, Detective Bobby Abbott, and Kevin Bacon as Captain Cade Grant, alongside returning cast members Paul Reiser as Jeffrey Friedman and Bronson Pinchot as Serge.
While waiting for the new movie’s release, you can catch up on all three previous films, currently available on Netflix.
Beverly Hills Cop Cast Recounts Their “Enchanting” Reunion with Eddie Murphy
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F not only brings Eddie Murphy back as Axel Foley but also sees the return of several beloved characters from the original trilogy.
Most notably, Axel will reunite with Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) when he comes back to Beverly Hills to protect his daughter Jane (Taylour Paige) from danger.
Trailers have teased a nostalgic moment where the trio is back in a car, evoking memories of the original Beverly Hills Cop.
Fans are thrilled to see this reunion, and it was equally exciting for the actors.
Reinhold shared with Digital Spy, “It was a magical night for the three of us. We hadn’t all been together in years, and that was the first night we reunited. Jerry [Bruckheimer] was there too. The chemistry was still strong, and it felt special to pick up right where we left off.”
John Ashton added, “It felt great to slip back into our characters. As soon as we got into that car, it was like no time had passed. Forty years had gone by, but it felt like we were right back where we started.”
The film also introduces new dynamics, with Axel reluctantly teaming up with Detective Bobby Abbott to assist his daughter.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt steps in as Axel’s new partner, and his experience was just as rewarding as he had hoped.
Gordon-Levitt commented, “Growing up, Beverly Hills Cop was something my older brother introduced me to. It had a special allure, and when I had the chance to become the new sidekick to Eddie Murphy, I was thrilled. The movie definitely lives up to my high expectations as a fan of the series and Eddie Murphy.”
The wait is almost over, as Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F will premiere on Netflix next week.
